I will be totally honest, I don’t like shrimp. I don’t know, it’s something about the texture. But my husband loves everything that comes from the ocean. One of my favorite companies, US Wellness Meats sells a lot of seafood and these shrimp being one of them. In an attempt to switch up dinner, I created these Smokey Spicy Barbecued Shrimp and my husband LOVED them! He liked them so much I felt like I was missing out so I had some as well. I will say the marinade on them was fantastic! This marinade would be perfect on other seafood, such as a white fish for fish tacos.

A smokey spicy marinade perfect for blackened shrimp.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound shrimp de-veined and peeled

Smokey Spicy Marinade

  • 2-3 tablespoons olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Depending on the size of your shrimp you will need about five skewers. If you are using wooden skewers, make sure to soak them in water before grilling.
  2. Mix all of the marinade ingredients together in a bowl large enough to hold all the shrimp. When mixing the marinade, it should create a paste.

  3. Add shrimp and toss to coat all shrimp with marinade.
  4. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes but no longer than 1 hour.
  5. In the meantime turn on the grill to preheat to high heat. About 500 degrees.

  6. Place the shrimp on the skewers.
  7. Grill the shrimp for 2 minutes on each side. Pay close attention to not over cook them!
  8. Serve these with guacamole or mango salsa.
