What is Beautycounter's mission?

Beautycounter's Mission: To get safer products into the hands of everyone. Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (including but not limited to asthma, cancer, and infertility) are on the rise and are due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals—whether it's in the shower, on our commute, while we eat lunch at a local restaurant, or when we clean our kitchens at home. There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don't have any safety data. This is particularly true of those used in the skin care and beauty industry. What's worse is that the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics in the United States) does not have the authority to remove harmful ingredients from the products we put on our bodies and on our kids' bodies every single day, day after day.

Is Beautycounter a MLM?

No. Beautycounter is not technically a “Multi-Level Marketing” company. They are considered a direct sales company. Beautycounter has been growing tremendously in the last 5 years and their growing team of consultants helps curious customers find the products that best fit their needs. Beautycounter taking a different sales approach than any other brand out there and it's working extremely well! We are sold on 3 different platforms; e-commerce, through independent consultants and their websites and through our strategic partnerships. 98% of sales are coming from the field of consultants. We are the movement, we are the agents of change, we are the how! These strategic partnerships include J Crew, Gwyneth Paltrow's brand Goop, our 9 week capsule collaboration with Target (Target came to us to be their first ever Designer Beauty Brand collaboration.) and our Nantucket Pop-up Shop over the summer months. These partnerships bring credibility to the brand and ultimately have helped build our businesses as consultants.

Why Direct Retail?

How much is it to join?

It is $98 to become a consultant for the first year and $50 every year after to renew. This fee goes towards your Enrollment Kit and provides you with a 25% discount on retail products and your own Beautycounter weblink that looks exactly like the corporate site. On top of a personal Beautycounter Website, New Consultants will receive a Workbook, a Beautycounter Tote and Pouch, marketing materials, and two full size hero products, the best selling travel size Overnight Resurfacing Peel and the 9 to 5 Intense Lipstick. You are also provided with what is called Behind the Counter, your back office.

How much money can I make?

We have one of the most generous pay plans in the industry and get paid in 4 different ways: 1. We earn 25-35% on retail sales 2. If we choose to build a team, we earn 5-9% on their sales 3. At certain levels of our comp plan, we earn an additional 3% on our team's sales 4. As we help our team grow, we can earn promotion bonuses that are paid monthly.

Do I need to build a team?

You are not required to build a team. Some people find they build a team organically as people are drawn to our mission and want to join our movement. However building a team is really fun and the best way to maximize the compensation plan.

Do I need to host home parties?

No, you do not have to host home parties! This is your business and it can be built the way you choose to build it. But, having in home get togethers can be the best use of your time. This is how you get in front of many people in a short amount of time. It is also how you tap into other networks. So often we hear from people that they do not want to do a home party, but then they do one and love it! We teach you how to be creative and make these fun. They are super casual and are based around education and not being a sales pitch.

Do I need to keep inventory?

We are NOT required to keep inventory. In fact, you shouldn't. You sell right from your personal weblink and let Beautycounter handle the inventory and shipping.

Do I need to sell a certain amount each month?

We do not have auto-ships and our activity requirement is for a 6 month period, not monthly. We are required to sell $1,200 every 6 months. The retail amount of your personal purchases and your customer purchases count towards this number. Do not let that scare you, it's easy to achieve and most of you will achieve it in one or two months. If you do not meet this requirement, you don't owe the company the remaining balance or anything, you simply get moved to Member status. Our Band of Beauty Member program is like Nordstrom Rewards. You get 15% back in product credit for all purchases, free shipping on orders over $100 and perks throughout the year. You remain a member for a year and have the option to re-sign back up for $69 during that year.
